The Challenge
Tidy.ai is a household chores management app that simplifies the process of assigning and tracking household tasks, setting reminders and incentives, and keeping track of progress. The app is designed to appeal to millennials and Gen Z users who want to keep their homes clean and organised while managing busy schedules.

I wanted to create an app that allows users to manage their chores daily, invite their flat mates and family members to their household and keep a healthy score depending on their chore completion rate. In a way, Tidy.ai gamifies keeping the space tidy, making it fun and engaging for all the members of the household.

I decided to tackle this challenge by going through a light Whiteboard Exercise first. This helped me define a few important pieces of the project before moving on into pushing pixels. So I asked myself this questions:

Why build it?
- It’s hard to tidy up the house when it’s habitants go to work everyday.
- It’s hard to divide and remember chores between house habitants.
- It’s difficult to have that conversation at home.

For who?
Everyone from the age of 12 to 70. Main target being Millennials and Gen Z (families, couples that live together and housemates).

When and where would it be used?
- Before moving in with a friend, a partner or a housemate and when things become hectic at home.
- Beginning of the day to check the to-dos ahead and end of day to mark them completed.

How can it be measured?
- Number of tasks completed vs all
- Number of days in a row a user comes back to the app
- Number of ‘households’ created
The Process
To begin with, I created a few user journeys for a reduced number of flows, while trying to design the app as friendly as possible.

Here’s as example to one of them:
Marking a to-do as done.
And also did a personality map and a mood-board to inspire my final mock ups.
The main for sections of the app, featured in the main menu, would be:

- Manage your chores: displays a list of all the household to-dos that need to be done.
- To-do creation: allowing manual and also AI assisted creation.
- Your Stats: showing latest stats and points gained by completed chores.
- Your Household: showing the rest of the members of the group.

Users are also allowed to postpone to-dos, change dates and time for recurrent completion and ask another user to “pass” a chore when the user is unable to complete certain to-do. Notifications would be pushed during the day to remind the user to complete the to-do and after completion they gain points that add to their overall score.

With these scores, I assumed users would be more engaged to complete they to-dos and have higher scores than their flat mates or family members.

After defining these app features I moved to the next step that would be creating a series of wireframes to understand how I wanted the layouts to look like before jumping on the actual visual design.

Here's an example of one of the flows in which a user would request to pass the chore to another member of the household.

The Outcome
Through thoughtful design and careful consideration of user needs, the Tidy.ai app successfully addresses the challenge of creating a user-friendly, visually appealing household chores management app. The app's streamlined interface, AI assisted to-do creation and score record of to-dos completed over time contributes to its potential success, making it an essential tool for simplifying the lives of millennials and Gen Z users.

By bringing more order to the chaos of household chores, Tidy.ai allows users to focus on their other priorities while still maintaining a clean and organised living space. The app's engaging and fun approach to task management will resonate with young people, making it a popular tool for anyone looking to stay on top of their household chores in a way that feels fresh, modern, and enjoyable.
